A fun wreath that is made with coffee filters and Kool Aid.
Spring is here, and the weather is finally starting to warm up. I see pretty purple tulips, pansies, daffodils, and green grass when I look around outside. It is such a wonderful feeling to finally be able to enjoy the gorgeous sunshine when I take my daily walks and do yard work.
The fresh spring air also makes me want to craft. I just finished up a beautiful Kool-Aid Drink Dyed Coffee Filter Flower Wreath which cost me under $8 to make!
Wreaths are a great way to dress up your indoor space any time of year. I probably own more wreaths than I should, but I love their versatility. I have been crafting my own wreaths since I was a teenager because my mom used to make her own as well.
A decorative wreath can go for well over $40 so I tend to reuse, and up-cycle materials to craft my own.
Did you know that coffee filters and Kool-Aid fruit juice drinks are two inexpensive, and versatile crafting supplies? Ok, so it may sound a bit strange, but Kool-Aid works wonders for dyeing coffee filters, and white fabric.
Kool-Aid Drink Dyed Coffee Filter Flower Wreaths
- Ready-To-Drink 96oz Kool-Aid
- Assorted Kool-Aid Packets *depends on what colors you want your wreath to be. Our’s is 4 colors:
- Yellow
- Pink
- Light Pink
- Purple
- 100 coffee filters
- 4 hot glue sticks
- foam 8 ” wreath
- glue gun
- ribbon/twine to hang it up
- gloves
Directions:
- Start by filling 4 containers up with steaming tap water. I added two cups of water per Kool-Aid Packet, and filled one container with two cups of the Ready-To-Drink 96oz Kool-Aid.
- Separate your coffee filters into piles of 10
- Using gloved hands, dip you filters in and allow them to soak for 1 minute
- Squeeze out each dipped set and lay flat on a baking sheet; repeat until each filter has been dyed in your desired colorsAllow your coffee filter to dry overnight, or place them in an attended clothes dryer on low heat for 10 minutes. *keep any eye on them-this is my favorite way to dry them quickly.Tie a ribbon or twine to make a loop for hanging your wreath.
- Prepare your hot glue gun
- To make coffee filter flowers, fold your coffee filter in half once, in half again and then again. It will look like a rose bud when crunched.Fold a 1/2 inch section of the flattened bottom and apply glue, and adhere it to your wreath; repeat in a colored pattern until finished.
The finished Kool-Aid Drink Dyed Coffee Filter Flower Wreath is so beautiful and really makes a delicate Spring and Summer decorative item. For such a frugal price it is my kind of crafting project! It also smells like fruit due to the Kool-Aid juice drinks!
