Now that the chilly fall weather has arrived, my oven has been in overdrive. I am not to the point of needing to turn the heat on but it is getting there. At least for now I can warm my space up a bit by doing my favorite thing which happens to be cooking for my family. This time of year is all about baking, and cooking hearty meals like Chorizo Green Bean Casserole.
Ok, so many of you might not be familiar with chorizo, but it is a Spanish sausage that boast lots of flavor. When I was younger my mom would make a green bean soup using it as the main protein and my family always loved it. I figured why not dress up traditional green bean casserole with some Latin flair.
Making Chorizo Green Bean Casserole is perfect for the holidays too! I know many of you all may prepare the traditional version for you Thanksgiving day spread, but by adding a meat like chorizo you can turn this side dish staple into a complete meal! It would go amazing with turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings, plus it is not hard to prepare! You can purchase most fo the ingredients at Walmart too which is super convenient.
- 4 cans of Del Monte® Green Beans
- 2 cans of Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
- (2) 2/3 of a cup of French’s® Crispy Fried Onions
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 links of chorizo sausage
- 1 small onion, diced finely
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil for cooking the chorizo
Cut Chorizo into slices, and then quarters them to make cooking easier
In a skillet, heat the olive oil and pan-fry the Chorizo and onion for 3-5 minutes
Once sausage is complete, set aside, and then gather your casserole dish, and canned goods.
Drain the liquid from the green beans
We love to serve this green bean casserole “twist” as a meal or with mashed potatoes. It is very filling and hearty for the soul! Plus it really doesn’t involve much effort for such an incredible meal! We love eating this when it gets cooler out because it is super filling and can easily be reheated and topped with more fried onions!
