Our Hallmark Valentine’s Day Story

If you are like me, I am sure you are well aware of the fact that Valentine’s Day is in a little over one week. I have to admit, I get a little giddy thinking about the day because I reflect on past years sentiments, and dare I say gifts? Like most couples, Valentine’s Day has changed quite a bit since our kids came into the world. However, one tradition that has been kept between us both is the fact that Hallmark cards play a big part in this day, or any of our holidays to be honest.
When we were younger, we’d write each other poems, and sweet sentiments. Sometimes you’d think we belonged working at Hallmark with the amazing and heartfelt things we’d put to pen. There would be poems tucked inside Hallmark cards and even boxes with shiny things. Ahh, but we were young kids–15 years old to be exact. Now that we have been together for half of our lives we like to really really on those awesome Hallmark Cards from Walgreens that do pretty much all the talking.
I thought it would be sorta funny to share both my view on Valentine’s Day and my husband’s so that you could get a glimpse inside our relationship and thoughts about February 14th, also know as Valentine’s Day; a day for lovers.
Amy’s thoughts: Ok, so call me a hopeless romantic but I do look forward to Valentine’s Day, my Hallmark Card, and *maybe* even some gifts of love and appreciation. I realize my husband does not have to give me anything big to profess his love, (don’t let him know that) but it is always nice to be surprised. While we can both agree that there is no need to spend tons of money some small gifts are fun!
I love Valentine’s Day boxed chocolates so much, and practical things I can use. I am over the whole sparkling jewelry stage but wouldn’t be disappointed if I did get something of this nature. However, a card (I check the back to make sure it is a Hallmark) is a must. I actually save my cards from pasts years because I am that sentimental. One year he was late with the card and I am pretty sure he will never make that mistake again. Hallmark cards show me how much he cares because he usually adds something extra inside tailored specifically to me.
To go along with our adorable cards, and since I am always cold, I am creating a themed set, one that will warm the heart, toes, and belly. Small mementos things like slipper socks, coffee gift cards, and even an artificial flower can speak volumes, and fit perfectly with the words expressed in your Hallmark card. Luckily for Jared, I am not a fresh flowers person at all, but I love flowers in their own element outdoors, or a Hallmark card. Besides, if he is going to give me a gift for Valentine’s Day, I appreciate something I can keep for years to come. Walgreens has tons of Valentine’s Day gifts that I actually LOVE! I picked up some fun examples of things that are inexpensive, but cute! These boxers I got my husband are playful and would make for a possibly fun date night!
When it comes to Valentines Day, I like to keep it simple. I’m not rich, nor do I like to show off to other people by buying my wife (and myself) super expensive fancy things like jewelry. I think Valentines Day is more special and heartfelt by keeping the gift(s) small and simple. For that reason, my destination for Valentine’s Day shopping is Walgreens. Walgreens has everything anyone could/should ever need to buy their significant other for Valentine’s Day. Even if you’re planning something huge like a wedding proposal, Walgreens is where it’s at! If you ARE planning to propose to your girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, you may want to swing by your local jeweler before heading over to Walgreens where you’ll find the perfect Hallmark card to express your love for her and help set the stage for you to pop the big question.
For those of us with equally as romantic and meaningful messages to convey but with less life altering results, there are lots of great treats at to give to your Valentine this year. What amazing Valentines Day gifts does Walgreens carry you ask? I can answer that question in one word… Hallmark! I mean, who has our back like Hallmark does when it comes to saying the right thing at the right time?! There was a time when I used to be poetic. Yeah, believe it! I used to write my wife poems all the time when we dated. For some reason however, I’ve had writer’s block for the past 10 years or so (I’ll just blame it on the kids). Not to worry though! Hallmark has my back! All I have to do is walk into Walgreens and find a Valentine’s Day card with a nice graphic on it! Most of the time, Hallmark cards have exactly what I wanted to say already printed on the inside. You can’t get any better than that!
Oh, and before I forget… In our house, it’s always best practice to buy a little box of chocolates for your lady! The Desrosiers women love chocolate (and so do I)! Later that night, I like to spend some alone time with my wife and the box of chocolates.
Ok, so as I finish this piece I am actually laughing really hard because my husband and I both contributed to this post at separate times yet our thoughts were so similar! Maybe I will even get a poem this year since his writer’s block might be officially over? Also, just to be clear, we like to enjoy the chocolates together, on the couch in front of a Hallmark movie of my choice…haha!
So for all your Valentine’s Day needs, be sure to head to Walgreens. They have great Hallmark cards for all price points, stages in life (or relationships) and kids! We cannot forget to add our three little ones to the mix now that they can read the calendar–just kidding~We love them to pieces!
