Why Being a Mom to Daughters Rocks

As many of you know, I have three kids. A 9 1/2 year-old daughter, 7 year-old daughter, and a 4 1/2 year-old son. I love my kids so much even though they drive me crazy! I am so appreciative and thankful that I have both daughters and a son which was my ultimate dream. While I love my son to pieces there are just so many reasons why being a mom to daughters rocks!
Ever since I was a little girl I was always the nurturing kind that loves my baby dolls. Coming from a family of 5 children I had no shortage of care taker opportunities. Being a little mommy was my life and helped shape me into the woman I am today. Now that I have two little girls of my own I wanted to reflect on why being a mom to daughters rocks my world.
I get to dress them up in pretty clothes and dresses. Ok, scratch that! I get to dress one of them in pretty clothes and glittery dresses while the other prefers her own jeans and tee shirt styles. Don’t get me wrong, she loves a dress here and there but on her OWN terms. You know what? That is ok too!
At first, I was upset that my daughter did not want to wear the pink, frilly stuff but I realized that she is entitled to her own sense of style. It is my job as her mother to support her style and encourage her that she is beautiful regardless if she is wearing a dress or jeans. Just like the folks at Dove, it is my mission as a mom to empower my girls to be unique and accepting of themselves.
Another reason why I love being a mom to daughters is the bond we share. There is nothing like having daughters to share secrets with, advice, and stories. My girls look up to me as a role model so it is important for me to be the best mom I can be. Just as I set goals for myself, I love helping my daughters to set their own goals.
Girl talk is another super cool part of being a mom. I love hearing my girls stories about their hopes and dreams in this sometimes harsh world. Hearing that they want to be Veterinarians and Doctors warms my heart. Even at their young ages, they are setting goals for themselves to be something mighty when they are older. Even if they do not turn out to be these professions it means they are still dreaming and being empowered. I cannot wait until they are older to get the realm girl talks going on their lives! I hope they are not only best friends with each other but also know they can turn to me for advice and love.
The folks at Dove have an awesome movement for young girls going on right now! Their Self-Esteem Project is aiming to spread awareness to every girl to know that they are beautiful no matter what society tries to instill in them. Regardless of looks, race, or handicap every girl on this planet is special and it is Dove’s message to help parents like myself to help to empower their daughters to love themselves on the inside and outside.
