Now that my kids are getting older, they are wanting to be more and more independent. Of course, the mother in me wants to cry and jump for joy at the same time. Not sure where the years flew by too, but my oldest is already 9 1/2, and my youngest is 4. It is a bittersweet time for sure, but I have been helping my three kids to become more independent; especially during and after and bath time.
I remember the days of washing my little infants in the kitchen sink and literally having to clear off my counter tops with a makeshift changing station. Now, my 9 and 7 year old girls hardly want me to help them wash their hair during bath and shower time. It was a battle I am letting them win as I slowly give them a little more independence and freedom to wash themselves.
Luckily, my kids all still love to take toy baths. They meticulously choose the bath time toys they want to play with and keep them in their bath buckets. Bath times are sacred to them because they love the water, and bubbles. Fun bath products like the new Suave Kids Frozen Anna 10 oz Sparkle Berry Detangler and Star Wars Galactic Fresh 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner+ body wash help. They love the scents each product boasts and the fact that their favorite characters are on the bottles.
As a mom, I love that they are available conveniently at Walmart stores near the other Suave kids line. These new Disney® Suave Kid’s products are also:
- Dermatologist Tested
- Easy rinse off
- Residue Free
Now that I have shared two products that are making baths more exciting around here I also wanted to share a few tips on:
How to Give Kids Independence During & After a Bath
*Please note you should always supervise a child during bath time. My son is not yet fully independent at bath time.
Choices: Introduce older kids to the shower. Set a timer to keep them on track with how long a shower should take.
Body/Hair Washing: Allow kids to wash their own hair and bodies *just supervise this process until you know they can rinse the suds out thoroughly. The Star Wars Galactic Fresh 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner+ body wash is an excellent choice for kids because it contains everything they need in one easy to pump bottle. It lathers perfectly and goes a long way!
Hair Brushing: Let your children brush their own hair and style it. If you child’s hair gets snarly, Suave Kids Frozen Anna 10 oz Sparkle Berry Detangler helps to easily detangle it.
Hair Styling: Allowing your child to style their own hair at an early age is a lifelong gift they will appreciate. My mom never let me style mine until I was like 12 so even today I have little sense of hair styling. My 9-year-old on the other hand could spend hours in the bathroom creating fun looks.
Outfit Choices: When it comes to outfits, let your child choose what they would like to wear for the day. I know my kids come up with some crazy combinations, but if we are not going anywhere formal I go with the flow.
Clean Up: I like to always remind my kids that I am their mother and not their maid. Have children return towels, bath toys, and soiled clothes to their proper areas.
