Happy New Year!
Do you have any New Year resolutions that you will be setting out to slay this year? I know I purposely did not make any personal resolutions for 2017. As with 2016, I am simply going to try to be the best version of myself daily. I plan on continuing to make my heart stronger through healthier eating decisions, and being active daily. One area that I know a lot of people struggle with is How to Eat Heart Healthy on the Go — and I am no exception!
I think eating heart healthy on the go is one of my biggest challenges weekly, and I am sure you might agree?
When My family is at home, we eat so well and cover all our nutritional needs. However, when we are out and about on the weekends and want something quick –that is when things can turn sour!
The reality is, most fast food or chain restaurants do not cater to the health conscious lifestyle. Thankfully, SUBWAY® Restaurants want to change that. In 2016, SUBWAY® restaurants and the American Heart Association (AHA) teamed up to launch +color, which encourages Americans to add more fruits and vegetables to their diets.
When you visit SUBWAY® they have an abundance of fresh vegetable toppings, bread choices, meat choices, and even salads. Their veggies toppings can create a delicious, lower fat lunch option that is jam-packed with heart-healthy fiber, and flavor.
We love their Ham, Turkey and Roast Beef offerings. By creating Footlongs that we split with each other, we have 6 inch subs that are loaded with veggies, and lean meats. At SUBWAY® there are no fried foods and you can even get fresh salad on the go which I love. In the past I have tried to do salads from competitors, but their pre-made varieties often result in me plucking away slimy leaves and rotten veggies from who knows who old salads.
Want to join the +color movement? Strive to add one cup of colorful fruits and veggies to your daily dietary intake. The more rainbow-like the veggies are, the better.
Here are some foods that can help you Eat Heart Healthy on the Go:
*Consume one serving of the following:
- 1 ounce of nuts like unsalted almonds, or walnuts

I know there are hundreds more heart-healthy snacks and meal ideas for on-the go eating when you cant get to places like SUBWAY® that offer healthier and fresh meal alternatives to help you get you +color extra cup of colorful fruits and veggies.
