Betty Crocker Suddenly Grains Salads: The Perfect Side Dish! #SuddenlyGrainSalad
“The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through Platefull Co-Op.”
Sometimes coming up with dinner plans that everyone in my household will eat is harder than trying to scale Mt. Everest. Just when I think my three kids like something, their taste buds change and they snub my meals. There is nothing worse than trying so hard to prepare a grand meal only for your 4 year old to say this is gross..how rude!
Rather than rip my hair out, I have started sampling my options, and taking the easier route. As a Platefull Co-Op member, I had first dibs on trying out the *New* Betty Crocker Suddenly Grains Salads. My kids do enjoy their Classic Suddenly Salad product, so I was hoping that these delicious looking grain salads would fit their taste.
Betty Crocker Suddenly Grains Salads are much different than their pasta counterparts. They are made with grains like quinoa, brown, wild, and even red rice. My kids like rice so I figured they’d really enjoy these new, and convenient side dish options. The first variety I decided to prepare was the Suddenly Grains Salad: Ancient Harvest.
The Ancient Harvest Grains Salad also contained a mix in pouch of slivered almond and dried cranberries. My kids LOVE cranberries so much so this was sure to be a hit..right?
My favorite part about preparing this product was that it was a no mess side! You conveniently boil the rice pouch on your stove top for around 15 minutes (turning once). When it is done, you rinse it under cool water, and then combine the spice pack, and mix ins with 1 tablespoon of oil, and 1 tablespoon of water.
The salad is then served cold with your choice of meals. It is also so hearty that you could eat it alone! We had ours with a cold cut sandwich, and some chips. It felt like it was a fitting meal considering it was really warm out. I LOVED the taste of this product, and so did my husband. My picky kids only ate the cranberries and almonds. However, at this point I would have been surprised if they did eat it all.
Betty Crocker Suddenly Grains Salads come in three varieties:
- Harvest Grains
- Southwest Grains
- Tuscan Grains
You can purchase them at stores like Target for a great price!
this looks like such a unique side dish. I am always looking for new things to try, and I would love to try this!
I have bought Suddenly Salads before. My kids don’t like them, but Chris and I do.
A grain salad in a box, now that’s a great new side idea! I get bored of boxed potatoes so I’ll have to keep an eye out for the Southwest Grains!
Ohh, that looks delicious. Not to mention, EASY. Sign me up.
I like the pasta kits they have, so I will have to look for this in store. I am all about convenience at dinner time.

That looks delicious and your pictures are gorgeous! Beautiful!
Yum! That looks like something I’d enjoy. I didn’t know they had a suddenly grains variety.
Well, you can’t win them all. At least they ate the cranberries and almonds – that’s a step in the right direction!
I grew up eating Suddenly Salad, but didn’t know this existed. I’ll need to try it. I like salads/side dishes like this during summer when it’s hot out.
I haven’t seen these. I do buy Suddenly Salad so I look forward to trying these.
This salad looks really appetizing. I may have to give it a try in the near future.
I haven’t used Suddenly Salad in a while and used to make it all the time. Thanks for the reminder! It looks good!
This looks awesome and super easy to make. I am grabbing it at the store next time I am there.
I noticed the harvest grains product is made with quinoa, wild rice, brown rice and red rice… I know quinoa and the rices don’t contain gluten does anyone know if this particular flavor is gluten free?
No, it would say gluten free. Sometimes due to possible cross contamination they cannot label it that way.
I love the grains salads. Why can I not find them in my local stores any longer?
I think they may have discontinued them sadly!
