Coinstar: A Great Way to Help Make Your Holidays Brighter!
With the holidays right around the corner many people will not be able to afford as grand of gifts this season. A sluggish economy, job loss, and high energy bills have many people actually dreading the upcoming months. However, there are some ways to cut holiday costs and think outside of the box. Homemade gifts, smaller budgets, and finding ways to make extra money are all options.
Helping neighbors with yard work, selling unused items on local yard sales sites, and cutting back on frivolous spending are all ways you can fatten your holiday budget. Saving and gathering your unused, and sometimes pesky loose change is also another way to get unexpected money for the holidays.
I know many of you probably have a catch all jug, jar, or space where that sometimes overbearing change piles up at astronomical rates. For us, we have many jars, nooks, and banks that are all overflowing with pennies, nickels, dimes, and even some quarters. I try to use mainly wristlets now, and even those are getting extra stuffed after a long day of shopping.
Personally, I prefer using a convenient Coinstar Kiosk to cash in my loose change. Why? Well, for one, they are virtually everywhere around here. Just look for the large, green, metal box that has an interactive digital screen. Those are the one and only Coinstar Kiosks that allow you to turn your spare change into cash (fees), gift cards, and ecertificates at tons of cool stores without fees!
For me, using Coinstar to cash out for a Home Depot gift card, or even a Starbucks Gift Card is a no brainer. If I wanted to cash in my change at any of my local banks I’d have to go through the whole hassle of counting and rolling my coins, and then I’d get the looks. For some reason bank tellers around here hate coins. That is why I rather cash in my pounds of change at Coinstar, and have it all counted in seconds!
You really wouldn’t believe how much change you have piled up in your cars, couches, on your counters, containers. It really is the perfect time to clean your areas out, and get valuable gift cards for Christmas gifts, Secret Santa exchanges–or for a holiday splurge for yourself!
How to Use Coinstar:
- Bring your loose change to one of their thousands of locations. If you are not sure where your local Coinstar is, use their store locator tool.
- Hit the Get Cash (10.9 % service fee) , or Gift Card, or eCertificate (no fee) Button on the Coinstar Kiosk Screen
- Pour your coins, and bills (if any) into the slotted tray, or bill holder
- The machine will spit out any foreign coins, or loose debris
- Your running total will be visible
- Once your coins are counted, your desired gift card will print out on a slip with the code right on it! Use it that very same day-simple as that!
Some of my personal favorite gift cards are the Toy R Us & Babies R Us ones, the Starbucks ones, and the Amazon ones! I love shopping Amazon.com for all my holidays gifts because they are so cheap! In fact, I am turning my annoying change into one of these gift cards for my kid toys!
So the question is, what would you turn your loose coins into? Cash or an eCertificate/Gift Card?
