Preparing for the Holiday Season + a Convenient Meal Idea
Thank you, Gorton’s Seafood, for sponsoring today’s convenient meal idea. Find Gorton’s Shrimp Bowls at stores like Target in the frozen meals aisle.
Ahh, the holiday season. A time for Christmas carols, peppermint everything, and the feeling of anxiety sprinkled with holiday cheer.
I don’t know about you, but I swear, with every year that passes, I feel like I am more and more stressed out around Christmas time. Between the overwhelming list of gifts, I need, and stores I need to visit–sometimes I do not even have time to cook!
Thankfully, I can always turn to nutritious, and actually tasty meals like Gorton’s Black Garlic & Wine Risotto Shrimp Bowlswhich are ready in 6 minutes or less!!
They are the perfectly delicious meal for Jared and me to enjoy by the tree as we get ready to face off in what feels like a Christmas wrapathon that involves lots of tape, and hide and seek with the scissors.
We can’t be the only ones that lose the tape and scissors with every wrapped package? haha
But really, this year I need December to slow down. I want to enjoy every moment and live for them instead of just “getting by” So to make things a little easier, today I wanted to share 5 Ways to Prepare for the holiday season.
Preparing for the Holiday Season
Meals We all know that we can spend more time dreaming of our Christmas menu and forget about our nightly dinners this time of year. All the visions of apricot glazed ham and blackened salmon can have us scrambling for a weeknight meal. Rather than doing takeout more times than I’d like in one week—I have been stocking my extra freezer up with foods that our family enjoys. These include frozen pizzas, Gorton’s Fish Sticks, and of course Gorton’s Shrimp Bowls. Meals that can be ready when we are something that will help me stay sane. Because every night cannot be a vegetable, potato, and protein kind of night—that is ok!
Gift Giving: This year, I am doing something a little different for gratitude gifts. Rather than put myself in an indecisive position in the middle of Target, I am going to be giving each service worker and teacher a small gift card tucked in either a mug with chocolate or little gift back with a thank you. I used to drive myself crazy at the stores with these gifts, but it is the thought that counts, and I need to remember that!
Entertaining: You all know that I am also a food blogger over at Sizzling Eats. Trust me when I say I love to cook and bake. But, even the most seasoned home cooks cannot do it all. I am a superhero sadly and have come to realize that picking up a cookie and meat tray from the market is ok. We do not need to bake or cook everything from scratch this time of year. Some bottles of wine and party trays can save you a whole lot of stress and time.
Gift Wrapping: I joked above that Jared and I often spend holiday night gift wrapping and losing the tape, and scissors–boy, is that true! Rather than overwhelm us with tons of last-minute wrap sessions I am going to start something new this week. Now that my gifts are slated to start arriving this week I am going to wrap and label them the same day and put them in trash bags of boxes away. This will make things sooo much easier!! You should try it too! Plus, it helps with gift peepers too! haha
Cleaning: I know that keeping our home clean for holiday guests can be such a struggle. I have decided to start focusing on one room a day to really give it a deep organize, and clean session. This will help me to tackle my home in a more realistic manner!
