Enjoying a Fun & Safe Day at Island Park Beach
This past weekend, our family of five decided to set aside the moving boxes, and take some time out of our busy weekend to enjoy the summer sun. Since we live right on the border of Rhode Island, we made the short drive to Island Park Beach in Portsmouth (also known as Teddy’s Beach). This beach is really small, not too sandy, but has gorgeous clear water, and a scenic view. I was asked to participate in the #ApplyRepeatProtect campaign, sponsored by Walgreens. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
Our quick beach trip was not the typical beach trip as we did not plan on going into the water. We wanted to safely soak up the sun’s rays (key word being safe), dip our toes in the water, and then head to dinner to enjoy some local seafood. As a parent, and health conscious person, one of my biggest concerns with the summer is the beaming, hot sun. While I love the bright sunshine, it is my job to keep not only my family’ skin safe from harmful UVA/UVB rays but my own as well.
One thing I have learned over the years is that not all sunscreens are created equally and that not all skin types agree with certain formulations. I have tried pricey brands only to find that they cause reactions with our skin. I admittedly used to be under the assumption that a higher priced sunscreen equaled better results, but that is so not true! Lately, I have been really loving the Walgreens brand sun care line which provides high-quality, reliable protection against the sun’s damaging UV rays, without being hard on my wallet.
Keeping in mind that each of our family members has different sun care needs, I decided to purchase all three Walgreens brand sun care products.
These included: Walgreens Moisturizing sun-care items-these are new this year and are Oxybenzone free, Paraben free, and oil free and are hypo-allergenic. I love that I can always keep this product with me because it is so versatile.
It goes on creamy and rubs in easily. We all agree that the smell is super fantastic and reminds us of the beach! Plus, the size is mega generous which I love since we are all outdoors so much!
Sheer and Clear Complexion which competes with Neutrogena suncare brand at a fraction of the price with a light weight feel. This is what Jared and I use on our faces to keep them moisturized and protected without the heavy-weight feeling.
We also picked up some top rated (on Consumer Reports) Walgreens Baby Lotion with SPF 50.
I know my kids are not babies, but I still love the gentle, and safe protection this product boasts.
Plus, its thick formula is easy for my kids to apply themselves before hitting the pool or water.
While using sun care products is a key to skin health, it is important to remember how crucial water is in the skin care equation. Now through August 26th, you can save $1 off when you buy one Smartwater and one Walgreens brand suncare item; coupon must be clipped to your Balance Rewards card and applied at the time of purchase.
I was sure to clip this deal to my card because who doesn’t need refreshment in this summer heat? I love the Smartwater bottle size and the fact that I got it for pennies after this money-saving deal.
During our beach stroll at Island Park, we found some crab shells, sea snails, seaweed, some pretty rocks, and we got to enjoy some fried clam cakes and chowder when we were done.
The sun was mega hot, but we all left burn-free which makes me super happy as a parent.
If you too want to stock up on summer skin care, be sure to head to your local Walgreens and take advantage of this deal.
You will love the prices and quality of these convenient suncare products. Be sure to enjoy the rest of your summer and have at least one more beach day before the back to school season.
What last hurrah will you be enjoying this summer?
