Can you believe that graduation season is upon us already? It seems like just yesterday I graduated from from high school, but in reality, it has almost been 13 years! now, I have my very own children, and my own special little graduate who will be graduating from (drum roll please) Kindergarten! Yes, you heard that right my daughter will be graduating from the “Big K” and for her that is a very special accomplishment taking into consideration her circumstances.
My daughter was born five years ago, and was a preemie. She had many health conditions against her which included heart defects, and more. I almost thought she wouldn’t make it, but thankfully all them prayers worked, and my little girl is now doing great in school even though the odds were against her.
We plan on having a little celebration for her because this is a big milestone for her! She loves little trinket boxes so I thought it would be cute to make her a DIY Graduation Treasure Box Money Holder that will be filled with little rolled up $1 bills. This idea is actually pretty easy to make, and would be perfect for any graduate from Kindergarten to college.
Speaking of graduation season, I am sure many of you will have a special graduate in your life. That is why you should check out Shutterfly’s 2015 Graduation Announcements and Invitations Collection. We recently received some samples from Shutterfly, and were so impressed with the designs! They really do have the highest quality graduation invites and announcements around! I just love this “ticket style” invite! Plus the fact that it can feature several different photos makes it especially appealing.
Now on to the even funner stuff! Ever feel like you want to get the graduate in your life a unique and thoughtful gift? How about making this DIY Graduation Treasure Box Money Holder Gift? It is relatively inexpensive and very easy to make! Plus, you can totally customize the bills your roll up and tie with ribbon. Use $1 bills, or maybe even $50 bills–the choice is your’s!
- 1 unpainted wooden treasure chest or box from a craft store
- School colors latex based paints-I used black and white American Decor Chalk Paint
- Applicator brushes
- Graduation stickers
This project is super easy and will take you only as long as it takes to roll up the money since the painting part should be quick and painless! Most latex or acrylic based paints dry in 30 minutes so I suggest painting your chest or box, and then rolling our bills as it dries. I used about 5 inches of ribbon for each bill, and rolled the bills tightly, and made little basic bows.
Once your treasure chest or box is dried, have fun applying your stickers, I found the perfect assortment at my local craft store. Since graduation season is starting, you should have no issues finding great stickers.
After your DIY Graduation Treasure Box Money Holder Gift is ready, simply fill it with your rolled, and tied bills, some change, or a nice note and put it in a gift bag and gift it to that special grad! I am sure they will love what your create!
