DIY Colorful Girl’s Organizer for Hair Accessories
Thank you to Nickelodeon for sponsoring today’s kid-friendly DIY post!
Today I am super excited to share this colorful, and fun DIY Colorful Girl’s Organizer for Hair Accessories which I have made for my daughter Khloe. It features all the bright and fun colors of one of her favorite Nick Jr. shows–Sunny Day.
If you aren’t familiar with the show, Sunny Day is a talented 10-year-old master hairstylist and salon owner. With her friends Rox and Blair and a can-do attitude, Sunny is ready to save the day – one hairdo at a time! The show airs weekdays on Nick Jr.
We love Sunny’s positive, can-do attitude, and think it makes a lovely show for our kids. Actually, all three of my kids enjoy watching this show because it is so cheery, fun, and engaging. Lately, I even find myself watching along as I clean the house in the background.
I admit, a part of me always wanted to be a hair stylist, or salon owner when I was a kid..kind of like 10 year old Sunny, Blair, and Rox. I would take my dolls, some hair gel, markers, and scissors, and go to town. I loved creating fun styles with my dolls, but was just too nervous to try out my creative side on people.
Now, my two girls love styling each other’s hair and have lots of fun expressing their enjoyment with all things hair, and fashion.
Since my 8 year old’s hair accessories are literally ALL over here room (this is not even all of them) I have been wanting to create some sort of system for her to organize them. When the opportunity to partner with Nickelodeon & Sunny Day came about I knew I just had to make this DIY Colorful Girl’s Organizer for Hair Accessories.
I knew she needed a space for her earrings, clips, bows, elastics, brush, and combs so I wanted something that was one piece but functional.
Armed with my ideas, I headed to the local craft store and spent $14.50 on the supplies to make this organizer for hair accessories.
Want to “Have a Sunny Day” and make this Sunny Day-inspired DIY Colorful Girl’s Organizer for Hair Accessories? Here is what you’ll need:
- Base- I used a wooden Easter Egg I got on clearance. You can use any circular wood base you maybe have or maybe even a platter.
- Mason Jar
- Small wooden circle box
- Small wooden star box
- Small wooden square box
- Ribbon- orange, fuschia, and yellow
- Acrylic paints in orange, yellow, fucshia, and blue
- Paint brush
- Hot glue gun + 2 glue sticks
- Buttons for box bows
Since this DIY involves a lot of painting, set aside a well-ventilated area with newspaper and prepare your paints.
I wanted the colors to match the shows personally, but of course if rainbow colors are not your thing simply mix things up.
Once everything was fully dry, I decided to embellish the jar with some ribbon using a hot glue gun.
I also added simply ribbon bows to the wooden boxes to jazz them up a bit. These would hold her hair ties, and small clips.
I then glued down the jar, and boxes. I left some space up front for her to lay her weekly bows down.
When she got home from school she freaked because she loved this so much! ‘
Now, she doesn’t have to cry in the morning because she lost her brush, elastics or clips.
