How I Achieved Financial Confidence in an Hour

The holiday season is in full swing. Are you feeling the burn in your wallet or bank account? Maybe you over-spent on holiday gifts or seasons “treatings.” A $6 latte here, a $25 new hat there, $100 tickets to a local show there. If you are anything like most folks, you might have indebted yourself to mounting debt, or longer work hours thanks to your jolly spending habits. Chance are you need financial confidence.
But, it doesn’t have to be that way.
Are you wondering if you should splurge on the newest phone to hit stores or that pricey toy your child wants? If these thoughts are crossing your mind, you must explore The onUpChallenge! This site helped me to regain my financial confidence in an hour.
You see, we are all human and even I have been shuddering at my monthly credit card bills. Swiping that card, and spending more on wants versus needs is human nature. We have all been there, done that at times.
However, if you want to start the New Year on a financially sound foot, you should check out this FREE financial confidence resource from SunTrust- The onUp Challenge.
I was so inspired and empowered after spending just an hour on the site. Here are some things I learned that has me reflecting on my financial habits.
It all started with the Values Challenge which is the first step of the onUpChallenge which defines what you value most in life.
I learned that my values, according to the challenge were Inner Peace/Spirituality. This quiz determined that spirituality and inner peace are a big part of my life (and my budget). AND, they are so right it is scary! We try to give back a portion of our earnings to church, so that was spot on!
After the Values Challenge, I explored the 7 Magical Lands which each unlock a badge. The first I visited was Confidence Clearing. Here, the fact that small steps can make an impact was instilled. By opening a Financial Confidence account, and emergency fund, one can save to crush goals. There are several helpful articles to watch to unlock this badge.
I love the Crush Your Savings Goals Calculator which helped to give me encouragement when it came to saving to pay off my home.
Next up was Organization Oasis. I really loved this challenge because I have been meaning to tighten up our weekly budget. After we moved into the new home, I was very lax in allocating our money. However, now that the bills are rolling in I need to tighten the reins. I also need to set up all my accounts to auto-bill pay which I used to use in the new home. I admit, I forgot to pay last month’s electric bill because I failed to be financially organized!
For Lender’s Ledge, I was pretty decent! I always keep tabs on my credit score and know exactly what kinds of debts I have. That one was a breeze!
Risky River was another easy one for me because I just literally reviewed/renewed all my insurance policies right before we moved. It felt good to check those tasks off!
Wealth Waterfall made me smile because I have been doing exactly what they recommend. I have had an IRA for over 10 years and will be contributing the max amount for the 2017 year. This is the first year I am able to actually take advantage of this!
Home Buying Hollow was also an easy challenge (now, but stressful then) since we literally just bought our new home. I have however been trying to make extra principal payments each month!
The last challenge was Happiness Heights which encourages diversifying revenue streams. I totally have been working hard on this lately and was super happy to check that one off.
I am happy to report that I can now join over 2 million people who have taken advantage of the onUp Movement and achieve financial confidence.
