DIY: Dehydrated Banana Chips & Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator Review
Since I have started to eat healthier, I have always leaned towards dried fruit in place of treats like candy. I love the chewy, unique taste that dried fruits possess, but they can get really pricey! I was easily dropping around $15-$20 for a large pound size bag at my local health foods market. It was only natural that I decided that I wanted to make my own dehydrated banana chips.
With the help of the Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator, which I received to review, I have been making all sorts of healthy treats. Dried apples, bananas, and apricots have been filling my home with wonderful, mouthwatering scents. The Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator is one of the world’s fastest, most even-drying dehydrators so it was a pleasure to receive one from this fabulous company.
The Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator model which I received is such a quality made kitchen appliance! It is very nice it look at, and is rather compact considering it can dry up to 5 trays of food! I only started out by making 2 trays of banana chips would used 5 normal sized bananas. The banana chips dried for 6 1/2 hours, and came out perfectly!
I have not had a chance to stray from dried fruit, but dehydrators can make things like:
- bagel chips
- vegetable flakes
- pet treats
- cure modeling, and polymer craft clay
- 600 watts
- five trays means there is no flavor mixing
- no rotation of trays necessary because the heat is distributed evenly
Using this item was very easy too! I usually leave the really technical stuff up to my husband, but this unit is very easy to use, and even clean! Just some warm soap and water gets your trays squeaky clean.
We all know that treats like trail mix, and jerky can cost a pretty penny! Thanks to the Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator you can make these snacks for a 1/3 of the cost! I love eating healthy and saving money so this is a plus!
When cooking my dehydrated banana chips, the whole home smelled so good! This model does warm up your kitchen area so I wouldn’t recommend using it on a super hot day. I put mine on my glass top stove, plugged it in, and let it work it’s magic. You know your fruit is done when there is no more moisture beads, or wet middle. It should have a little pull and be leather like.
Dehydrated banana chips can last upwards to a year when stored in an air tight container, but I know they didn’t last more than one day here!
Nesco believes there are four reasons why you will love this dehydrator. I have to say, I agree with each of them, and can think of more!
- easy to use
- eco-friendly-preserves locally grown fruits and veggies which helps to reduce your carbon footprint
- healthy-foods retain all their vitamins and minerals without any toxic chemicals or additives
- economical- costs MUCH less than store bought dried fruits, and keep for up to a year
Overall, if you want to make healthy snacks like dehydrated bananas, the Nesco Snackmaster® Pro Food Dehydrator is for you! I give this product five stars for great quality, construction, and ease of use.
