Why I Chose the NuTone Knock Video Doorbell for Added Home Security.
We are NuTone Ambassadors. All views expressed are that of my own.
If trouble comes knocking at your door when you’re away from home, will you know it’s happening? If you had the NuTone Knock Video Doorbell you would.
Video doorbells are beginning to gain popularity thanks to the push for more smart home products.
NuTone, a leading brand of home products like ventilation fans, central vacuum systems, and other types of equipment is making it’s mark in the video doorbell market.
The NuTone Knock Smart Video Doorbell is NuTone’s latest addition to their awesome lineup of products. Best of all, it’s easy for a savvy homeowner to install in about 5 minutes! But that’s just ONE reason why I like this product so much.
There’s a few more reasons that make this my number one choice to monitor my front door. So let’s explore the Knock Smart Video Doorbell in more detail, shall we?
The Knock Smart Video Doorbell measures 2″ wide x 5 1/2″ tall x 1″ deep. This makes it a great size for the front of a house without looking like some kind of 1980’s depiction of a futuristic 2-way video conference phone. Some of the video doorbells I’ve seen remind me of that!
Featuring a sleek, minimal design was the right choice for NuTone on this project. Most other video doorbells on the market are gray/silver. The black gloss finish of the Knock, accents the front of most modern homes and actually appears to belong there. My house is beige with black shutters, so the Knock looks really great from a design standpoint.
Installation was a breeze with the Knock Smart Video Doorbell. Just to clarify; YOU NEED TO HAVE A WIRED DOORBELL ALREADY INSTALLED IN YOUR HOME in order to install the Knock. This doorbell simply replaces your current doorbell. All you need to do is install an included diode inside your current chime box, and connect the Knock doorbell wires to the existing doorbell wires coming from your home.
It can’t replace a wireless doorbell because it needs to run off of your home’s wiring.
The last thing you need to install is the NuTone Knock app on your Android or iOS device.
I made a short video that shows the install that you can watch at the end of this post.
The Knock Smart Video Doorbell has the following features that make it worth every penny:
- Weatherproof (kind of essential for a doorbell, but you’d be surprised)
- 720p HD camera with 180 degree view.
- Night vision
- Two-way audio so you can speak with visitors.
- Motion detection with alerts and automatic video retention. The motion detection is adjustable, so you can tweak it until you stop getting those annoying false-alarms.
- Do Not Disturb mode (turn off the chime for a set period of time)
- Snapshots are automatically saved when the doorbell button is pressed.
- Can be viewed on up to four (4) smartphones or tablets
The Knock Smart Video Doorbell came more feature packed than I thought it would before I installed it.
Videos can be saved to a cloud storage service for $3 per month or $30 annually, which is a really good deal compared to other smart camera devices!
NuTone Knock App:
The NuTone Knock app is made very well. Setup was simple and took about 1 minute before I was connected to my Knock Smart Video Doorbell. The user interface is simple and easy to navigate. You have the option to view a live feed from the camera, view call events (events where someone pushed the button), or view recorded events (motion detection events).
For every event, there is a snapshot photo that can be viewed instead of the video. Below are a couple of snapshots I took:
The Knock Smart Video Doorbell retails for $199, which is on-par with other video doorbells on the market. In my opinion the price of $199 is well worth the piece of mind knowing who’s at your door.
I’ve had it installed for two (2) weeks at the time of writing, and have had no issues with connectivity or functionality. The app has worked flawlessly and is very easy to navigate.
I love the look of the doorbell on my house siding. I’ve received a few compliments from neighbors and other visitors as well, which tells me that I’m not alone in those thoughts.
The Knock Smart Video Doorbell’s durability and weather resistance tell me that it’s going to last for years down the road.
Overall, i’m very happy with the Knock Smart Video Doorbell and would recommend it to others (even friends and family ;-)).
