DIY Oatmeal Brown Sugar Body Scrub & Fall Skincare Savings

In less than one week we will officially be entering Autumn. I have to admit, it is already getting pretty chilly her in New England, but I can tell Mother Nature is having a hard time with it. One day it will be 58 degrees, and the next 89. While some people may enjoy the fluctuations, it is wreaking havoc on my skin. My body does not know weather to sweat or shed the old skin from my summer tan so right now it is in that lackluster stage.
Right now, you can Save on Vaseline, St. Ives and Dove at Walgreens this fall. These lotions are ideal for locking in moisture after a scrub, and smell fabulous! Save $1.50 on any ONE (1) Vaseline (clip to card), St. Ives, or Dove lotion (6.5oz to 21oz). Excludes trial and travel sizes. Coupon is available now- 11/26/16. On a recent trip to Walgreens, I stocked up on lotions and picked up some St. Ives Collagen Elastin Lotion, Dove Extra Strength Lotion, and Vaseline Cocoa Radiance lotions. Perfect for locking in that moisture I totally need!
My knees, elbows, and hands were so dry from all the hand washing and showers I take. Going to the gym is great for releasing stress, and exercise but the sweat is not so good for skin. I have been meaning to buy some full body scrub, but decided why not make my own? Since I love to bake, I had all the ingredients for a DIY Oatmeal Brown Sugar Body Scrub. Plus, a scrub to exfoliate my skin before moisturizing with the new lotions I picked up at Walgreens was great.
So a bath it was. When I do a full body scrub I like to take a bath because it allows my skin to soak. When you soak your skin, it is so much easier to exfoliate with a loofah and the oatmeal and sugar blend. This recipe is best for one use so feel free to apply it liberally or share it with your husband or even kids since it has natural ingredients. It might clog the drain if you leave the oats whole so please be sure to grind them up finely.
For me, I prefer to use honey and milk as liquids because I do not like feeling greasy after exfoliating. Coconut oil is also not so awesome for the drain and would clog much more than this recipe.
DIY Oatmeal Brown Sugar Body Scrub
- 3/4 cup of ground oats *not too fine
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of milk
Grind your oats until semi-ground *you do not want them too fine or they will not scrub as well
Once oats are ground up, add them, the sugar, milk and honey to a bowl and mix them up.
Place them in a jar and use them up the same day. I find if I try to keep them they turn back into gummy oatmeal. This recipe makes a good amount to get your whole body and then some. I suggest sharing the recipe with a family member, or slightly adjusting it to less.
After you have exfoliated your skin, be sure to use some moisturizing lotions from Dove, St. Ives, or even Vaseline.

This looks amazing ❤️
I totally love sugar scrubs. They are so awesome feeling on your skin and I usually try to get them when they are at sale at bath and body works but never thought of making it myself. This sounds pretty simple and I love the idea of knowing the ingredients in something or anything that goes on your skin. Pretty neat.
I am down for anything that is Bath and Body! I love that you can take simple ingredients and make them in to a lushes skin care treat. I have never thought about using brown sugar with oatmeal, but I think for a body scrub, but I think I am going to have to give it a try.
I love the DIY oatmeal body scrub that you featured here. I bet it smells heavenly! I can see this being a great gift for the holidays coming up. I’d love to receive something like that! Thanks for sharing recipe.
I love the way you displayed this, it looks so pretty. I think this sounds like a wonderful way to pamper yourself or give as a gift. My mom would love to try this out but I know she isn’t into making things so this gives me the perfect gift idea for her, thanks for sharing!
Wow, I have heard of making sugar scrubs, but I haven’t seen oatmeal scrubs! This looks so easy and looks like it would exfoliate the skin so well! I think I need to give it a try.
I was just looking up different ‘recipes’ for homemade scrubs and oatmeal kept coming up. Apparently it is fantastic as an exfoliant! I’m going to try this!
Our weather has been all over the place here, too. Most of the days are still piping hot, but the evenings are starting to cool down. I know my skin could really use this scrub and some lotion!
Awesome recipe although I’m not sure if I want to exfoliate with it or eat it lol – I sounds delightful though and a great reminder that we’re getting to the time of year that is pretty tough on our skin!
Im in love with all kinds of scrubs for my face. As I get older my skin has brown spots and dull like appearance. Never tried a brown sugar scrub. I will be going to the store tonight to pick up all the things for my scrub. I love how scrubs make my face glow. Thank you for sharing
