Did you know that the Latin word for chocolate translates into “Food of the Gods?”. I guess it really is no big surprise considering how many of us adore chocolate. Thanks to receiving a new copy of the sweet book, Great Moments in Chocolate History I have been learning so much about how the bitter cacao transformed into rich, and decadent chocolate years later.
I admit, I sorta hated learning about history in school. Its embarrassing, but history class is when I took my naps in high school! My teacher was super boring, and lulled me to sleep better than any white noise could ever do! I did get A’s in his class but it is because I would have to read the entire chapter we were covering and take extreme notes. I loved most book but my history book was never, ever one of them.
Ironically, my latest “history” book has been capturing my attention and leading me on a journey through time from when chocolate was first discovered, to how the famous M&M® Candies came about. I just could not get enough of Great Moments in Chocolate History because it is actually so cool to learn about chocolate from way back when! I guess I sort of took my Hershey’s Chocolate for granted, and didn’t realize how much history there was surrounding it!
For more than 100 years the folks at Mar’s have been creating delicious chocolate confections. In 2003, their team decided to dig deeper and do some extensive global research to learn more about chocolate’s roots. This research led to the birth of AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate as we know it today–historically rich chocolate products.
Great Moments in Chocolate History also includes 20 beautifully photographed recipes that are easy to recreate. I really do want to try them all, but I was inspired to make a Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink with two of the AMERICAN HERITAGE® chocolate products I received. After all, it is the perfect time of year to enjoy some chocolate and peppermint.
- 2 tablespoons of AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate Drink Mix mixed with equal parts boiling water until desired serving size is achieved
- Crushed candy canes
- Grated AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate Block
After you prepare the drink, simply mix with a peppermint candy cane to allow the peppermint taste to co-mingle with the chocolate, then top with marshmallows, crushed peppermint, and grated chocolate. This drink is super gourmet tasting when you use such high-quality chocolate such as AMERICAN HERITAGE® by Mar’s .
Looks good doesn’t it? The folks at AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate have also given us an additional prize pack which consists of the AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate Block, AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate Drink Mix, and a new copy of the book: Great Moments in Chocolate History.
