Review: Are Amy’s Veggie Burgers as Good as the Real Deal?
Ever since I knew they existed, I’ve always been intrigued by veggie burgers. Until recently, I honestly never quite understand why people would want to eat a meatless burger. I guess I was sort of ignorant towards them because to me, a burger=meat. It took me 28 years to one day purchase my first box of veggie burgers. I went to the natural, and organic isle of my food store, and stood in front of the freezer forever.
I’ve only recently began shopping what is considered to be the healthy section of my market. My goal for my family is to make healthy meal, and snack choices for them to eat. We used to be big red meat eaters, but have since cut back drastically. So when I finally decided to take the veggie burger leap it was a pretty big thing. After taking all too much time looking at my meatless burger options, I decided to go with the Amy’s brand.
I once saw a great special on tv that spoke of the Amy’s brand, and how the company was named after the owner’s daughter. I really liked their mission, and was hoping their food was worth the $5 spent. After getting home, I prepared my California Burgers in a skillet with some olive oil. They had the same look, and feel as regular meat burgers so I was very excited to taste them. Regardless of the taste, at least I wouldn’t have to worry about biting down on a bone shard, or fat ball like so many burgers contain.
When the time finally came to tasting my burgers I was amazed at how fresh, flavorful, and tasty they were. The texture was definitely different than meat, but not so far off. I loved the grilled flavor, and the veggies all went together so well. My first ever meatless burger experience was a success!!
One day I decided to write Amy’s, and they generously sent me 3 free product coupons to try foods that I thought my family would like. Since I loved their burgers so much I decided to get two boxes of the California Style Meatless Burgers, and 1 box of Texas Style meatless burgers.
I LOVE Amy’s California Style Burgers for a few reasons:
- Non GMO
- Organic Ingredients
- Taste great alone, or with cheese-I can definitely say I enjoyed them more than meat!
Wondering what is in Amy’s California Veggie Burgers?
Ingredients : (Vegan) Organic mushrooms, organic onions, organic bulgar wheat, organic celery, organic carrots, organic oats, filtered water, organic walnuts, wheat gluten, organic potatoes, sea salt, expeller pressed high oleic safflower and/or sunflower oil, organic garlic. Contains wheat & walnuts. ~I really love how I can actually pronounce all these ingredients and I don’t have to worry about meat additives!
Since I loved the California Style Burgers I was sure the Amy’s Texas Style Veggie Burgers would be just as good. I made these burgers the other night on the grill alongside some grilled zucchini, mushrooms, and onions. They appeared a slightly redder than the other type, but I figured it was do to the fact that they contained a BBQ sauce flavor. I decided to melt some cheese on them because I thought it would go good with the flavoring.
Check out what is in Amy’s Texas Style Veggie Burgers:

After tasting this variety I can’t say I was a fan at all. I did not like the BBQ flavor, but the texture and overall structure of the burger was great. The burger did taste exactly like BBQ flavored meatloaf which I actually dislike so that could have played into my preference. If you love BBQ then this would be a wonderful veggie burger for you to try, but it just wasn’t a favorite of mine. My husband on the other hand loved it, and asked me to put them on our grocery list.
Overall, I must say that I love the Amy’s brand of veggie burgers, and their other foods are equally awesome. My 3 year old loves their rice based gluten-free frozen mac and cheese meals! I can’t wait to try the other veggie burger flavors! I should consider myself lucky because my local stores carry tons of Amy’s products. After tasting two other “leading brand” meatless burgers I can say that Amy’s makes the best!!
