RIDGID 2 Peak HP Fixed Base Router Kit Review
Aside from being a trusted name in the plumbing industry for the past 80 years, RIDGID is quickly making their mark in wood working as well. With reasonably priced, quality tools that measure up to the professional level of durability and performance. RIDGID is becoming one of my favorite tool manufacturers.
So how does the RIDGID 2 Peak HP Fixed Base Router Kit measure up in terms of quality, price, performance, and features? First of all, I’ve got to compliment RIDGID on the design of the 2HP fixed base router. The tool is perfectly proportioned to provide user control. The center of gravity is positioned well to give the tool stability while sitting on both it’s base and top. The top of the router is flat, and has 3 rubberized pads, which contact the surface while changing bits. These pads not only provide grip, but also protect the surface the router is on, and the router itself from scratches or marring.
The RIDGID 2 Peak HP Fixed Base Router is constructed from Magnesium. Magnesium is a strong but lightweight metal that is often paired with aluminum, and used as an alloy. Your car or truck may actually have Magnesium alloy wheels, since it’s such a strong and lightweight metal. The fact that RIDGID chose to use this material for their fixed base router, lends to the fact that their tools are built with durability in mind.
The router motor has 11 amps of electric juice running through its veins! This provides 2 peak horsepower to the spindle, which is more than enough for most jobs in most materials. In addition to the motor’s power, it features Slow Start. Slow Start is a built-in technology that gradually (over the course of about 1-2 seconds), increases the spindle speed to the set RPM. For a heavy duty router, the RIDGID 2 Peak HP Fixed Base Router is very quiet and smooth when running. In addition, this router has an electronic variable speed control that can be adjusted easily by the turn of a dial from 10,000 – 23,000 RPM. Even running at max speed, the RIDGID Fixed Base Router feels ultra smooth, and relatively quiet compared to other routers I’ve used.
The base is made from a crystal clear polycarbonate material that gives you good visibility of your work surface below. In addition to that, there are 2 LED lights located on either side of the spindle, which turn-on during operation. These lights help illuminate your work and eliminate shadows when working in low light environments.
The kit also comes with a 1/4″ collet insert, router table mounting screws, a vacuum hose adapter, and a centering tool with pin.
The RIDGID 2 Peak HP Fixed Base Router Kit is a great deal in my book. For the current retail price of $179.00 at Homedepot.com, it’s competitively priced verses its competitors. Plus, it’s covered under RIDGID’s 3 year limited warranty and their Lifetime Service Agreement! You cant loose with this router!
