Simple Ways to Go Green in the Bathroom
These days, many people are looking for ways to be greener, and earth friendly. Most of us can agree that we all want to do our part in helping to keep the earth healthy and strong for thousands of years to come. However, many people do not realize that their bathrooms are the perfect place to go green. That is why I felt compelled to share some simple ways to go green in the bathroom that will hopefully spark some enthusiasm and awareness.
Ok, so one of the most used products in the bathroom is toilet paper. What brand are you using? For us, Scott has always been our favorite brand. We were lifelong fans of the Scott Tissue 1,000 sheets because it seemed to last a long time in our home. We’d recycle our toilet paper roll about once a week, and repeat the process. However, as I quickly learned at family members homes they were just tossing their toilet paper rolls in the waste basket….a big no-no since these tubes are one of the easiest things to recycle.
Thankfully, the folks at Scott created Scott Tube-Free toilet paper. Now, folks can support a greener toilet tissue effort and use a product that contains absolutely no inner cardboard tube.
Shampoo & Conditioner Bottles:
Support fewer landfill plastics by purchasing shampoo products that are made with post-consumer recycled materials or products that are made with earth friendly ingredients. You can also up-cycle shampoo bottles into super cool hanging caddy’s or soap holders.
Wash Towels in Cold Water & Line Dry:
There is nothing fresher than a line-dried towel and linens. We started washing our towels and clothing in cold water and actually bought detergents that were made for either temperature. You not only save energy, but you benefit from that fresh-air scent line-drying provides.
I bet you didn’t think of this one! By towel drying your hair, you can not only save energy but time. You hair will be a little less fried, and a little gel can help you achieve the wavy look.
Do you have a low-flow shower head? If not, you might want to look into replacing your shower head. We have two low flow shower heads and let me tell you they are awesome. The name might be deceiving but the way the water trickles out of them on a nice airy pattern makes them my favorite bathroom gadget.
Do you have a roll of paper towels that you dry your hands with in your bathroom? Consider swapping it out for a hand towel to save on unnecessary bathroom waste.
There are many oral care brands out there that are earth friendly. We use two brands that are bunny certified and made with post-consumer recycled materials. While that is great, the biggest tip I can share is to turn off the water while you brush. There is nothing worse than someone who wastes water while brushing their teeth. It is a pet peeve that drives me insane. Consider a permanent rinse cup that you can wash out after each use, or only turn the water on when you need to rinse your mouth and toothbrush.
