Our Because Moment
Have you ever read a children’s book that had you so deep into reflection about life that you just had to share about it? I have, and today I am providing a glimpse into a little because moment I had which was inspired by the book Because written by Mo Willems and illustrated by Amber Ren.
The story is about a man name Franz who was inspired to create his own music. It evolves on every because moment that led him to his career, and how his music inspired a little girl named Ren to grow up and perform her very own music. It is well-written, and so beautifully illustrated.
Today, I wanted to share my “because” moment on how this blog was started. It all started when I was little kid. Because our family couldn’t afford cable tv in every room, I would often read and study in my bedroom.
I’d sit on my bed with the pillows propped up and would mentally devour whatever books I had at hand. I craved knowledge and would often pass it onto my younger siblings. It was because my love of learning that I wanted to someday be a teacher. So I made sure my grades were good in school, and eventually graduated with highest honors from a university and did my student teaching.
Then, I started to teach, and I loved every single day of it. But, because I got pregnant and became very ill, I had to take a leave. I’d sit on the couch and read to my baby and think about my students and heading back to class.
Because my first baby got a little older, I returned to teaching, but then I had another baby which made me even sicker and I once again took a leave from teaching. Because of my second baby being born with special needs, it was then that I realized I wanted to raise my family full time and stop teaching.
But, because I had a yearning to educate, and share my thoughts with other people this blog was born. Because this blog was born I was able to have another son and raise him at home.
Because I raised him at home with lots of books and attention he turned into a little reader himself. Because he loves to read he was able to almost read this whole post himself. Because this book inspired him to want to be an engineer like his daddy, he went to his room to build contraptions.

About Mo Willems
Mo Willems, a number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, composes a powerful symphony of chance, discovery, persistence, and magic in this moving tale of a young girl’s journey to center stage. Illustrator Amber Ren brings Willems’ music to life, conducting a stunning picture-book debut.
Why We Love Mo Willems
Mo Willems created some of our family’s favorites books like the Elephant & Piggie series, and Pigeon Presents books. These books are so easy for my son to read and really make him smile. Last year in Kindergarten he faithfully would take out one Mo Willems book per week and we’d read his books every night.
