Homemade Caramelized French Onion Dip

A from scratch sweet & savory dip recipe. This dip contains so much less sodium vs packaged dip mixes and takes about 15 minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet Vidalia onion diced into smaller chunks
  • 12 ounces sour cream
  • 3/4 cup Hellmann's Mayo
  • 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

  • Heat a medium frying pan with oil, and then add in diced onion, and spices. 
  • Pan-fry for about 8-10 minutes or until onions are translucent and tender. 
  • In a bowl, add onions, sour cream, and mayo. 
  • Mix well, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours*.
  • You can eat it warm, but it tastes better chilled, and will become more firm. 
  • Serve with chips, pita bread, or veggies.

Notes

Best Dip Flavor 

Allowing this dip to set in the fridge for at least 4 hours really help makes the flavors POP! Making it 24 hours in advance really helps the flavors to continue to meld perfectly.
