Stovetop potpourri is a simple way to fill your home with the scent of your favorite spices and fruits. And it's a great way to use up leftover fruits and spices from the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole apple sliced, or use multiple cores.
  • ½ cup whole cranberries
  • 1 whole orange sliced, or use multiple peel discards.
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 1 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon stick, cranberries, apple, orange, star anise, and allspice.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Place the potpourri on the stovetop and let it simmer for 90 minutes on low. Check often to ensure the water level is adequate.
