Homemade Caramelized French Onion Dip
A from scratch sweet & savory dip recipe. This dip contains so much less sodium vs packaged dip mixes and takes about 15 minutes to prepare.
Servings: 8 people
- 1 lb sweet Vidalia onion diced into smaller chunks
- 12 ounces sour cream
- 3/4 cup Hellmann's Mayo
- 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Heat a medium frying pan with oil, and then add in diced onion, and spices.
Pan-fry for about 8-10 minutes or until onions are translucent and tender.
In a bowl, add onions, sour cream, and mayo.
Mix well, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours*.
You can eat it warm, but it tastes better chilled, and will become more firm.
Serve with chips, pita bread, or veggies.
Best Dip Flavor
Allowing this dip to set in the fridge for at least 4 hours really help makes the flavors POP! Making it 24 hours in advance really helps the flavors to continue to meld perfectly.
