Ever create an something that is actually so delicious that you are surprised? Well, this actually happened recently when my wife concocted some bite-size savory appetizers. Since I was testing out the new Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill I knew either Johnsonville Sausage or Bratwurst had to be the main star, but I was at a loss of what I could do with them.
Hey, I admit, I am a guy and not the most creative cook. Tuck some brats or sausage in a bun, add some condiments, and I am one happy guy. My wife on the other hand is much more innovative and easily thought “outside of the bun”. Since we do enjoy cheddar apple sausage, she was inspired to create these Apple Cheddar Brat Bites which were perfect for my game day get together.
Made with sharp yellow cheddar slices, crisp Granny Smith apple slices, and a tender slice of juicy Original Johnsonville Bratwurst and these were ready to enjoy! I normally am not one to get too excited with food, but my wife really made me smile when she brought a tray of these out for us to munch on. Her Tangy honey Mustard really added extra get in my belly deliciousness to these bites (thanks Amy).
As mentioned, we received a new Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill which is perfect for tailgating. I cannot recount how many times I have wanted some grilled sausage or brats and remembered my grill was 3 feet under snow. This electric grill contains space for 5 sausage links and cooks them to a juicy perfection in less than 10 mins. Plus, the removable plates and drip tray are dishwasher safe–AWESOME!!!!-can I get an Amen?
Want to make these Apple Cheddar Brat Bites? Here is what you will need *Adjust to serving sizes*
Ingredients:
- Granny Smith Apples- sliced thinly
- Yellow Cheddar- Sliced into 1/4 inch thick slices
- Johnsonville Bratwursts in Original
Tangy Honey Mustard Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons mayo
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp brown mustard
Directions:
Combine all your Tangy Honey Mustard ingredients together and place it in the fridge.
To prevent your apples from browning, I suggest soaking your slices in water with a little lemon juice added. The citric acid helps the apples to stay white, and not turn brown.
Place your brats on the Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill, and grill until the machine beeps
Once done, allow them to rest for 5 minutes before cutting them into slices.
To stack your appetizers, start with an apple slice, cheddar, and then sausage-finish with a toothpick or appetizer pick.
