Oh springtime, where art thou?
Now that it is March, that is just how I feel about now as we experienced yet another snow storm this week. I feel like I may be slightly going crazy here in New England thanks to all this seemingly never ending snow. There is no doubt my spring fever has started to set in making me crave warm weather, flowers, and lots of fresh scents. For now, the bright, cheery mason jar of flowers on my bathroom vanity, and the lovely scent of the Whipped Cocoa Butter foaming hand soap will have to curb my need for spring.
Since winter is just so cold and blah, I depend on products like new Softsoap Liquid Foaming Hand Wash to not only clean my hands but to ignite my senses. It may sound cheesy, but a soft touch and fresh, invigorating scent can really do a number on one’s mood. I love trying out new, freshly scented hand washes because with three kids, there is never a shortage of hand washing!
Honestly, I find myself having to wash either my hands, or my two year old’s at least every hour! He gets into dirt, his diaper, or simply makes such a mess with his food around the clock. Strangely enough, washing my hands with a freshly scented hand wash calms me down.
Lately, I especially love all three Softsoap Liquid Foaming Hand Wash scents and formulations which include: Kitchen Citrus Bliss, Jasmine and White Cotton, and Whipped Cocoa Butter. I recently purchases all three hand washes at my local Walmart store for under $8! They are extremely reasonably priced for such a premium product! My hands have never felt softer, and the scent of all three are such mood boosters!
Speaking of mood boosters, there is nothing more I want in my life right now than some cheery, brightly flowers. Every year when March hits, all I want to do is head outside and start planting. Obviously that is totally not possible here in crazy New England so, I decided to make some DIY Rustic Painted Mason Jars with flowers to decorate my bathroom vanity with.
These Rustic Painted Mason Jars were so easy to create and a very frugal spring or summer DIY idea. I had all the supplies on hand, and my time spent creating these hand painted jars was very minimal. The entire project took me around 30 minutes to do, but with provide a season’s worth of happiness (providing my two year old leaves them alone).
Supplies needed to make these Rustic Painted Mason Jars:
- 3 mason jars * no lids needed
- 1 jar of Americana White Chalk Paint
- Rit Dye Magenta and Purple
- 3 Foam Brushes
- 2 containers for mixing
- 1 tablespoon
- 1 teaspoon
- butter knife, or toothpick
- Wired decorative burlap
- hot glue
Prepare your containers with one heaping tablespoon of chalk paint for each small jar. You may need to double this to 2 tablespoons for larger jars.
Add one 1/4 teaspoon of Rit Dye to each container of paint. I kept one jar the original white so I only needed to prepare two containers with the heaping tablespoon of paint, and the dye.
Using your foam brushes, mix the paint until the color is consistent.
Apply paint to your jars in a long stroke, uniform motion. It is ok if they look a little streaky because you want a rustic, primitive charm. Chalk based paint dries quickly so be sure to cover the jar as quickly as possible.
Once all your jars are painted, they should take no more than 10 minutes to cure.
Using a toothpick, gently scrape off small amount of paint near the lettering on your jars, and a few spots in between. You want them to have that weathered look.
For the last step, measure the circumference of the lid area of your jar, and cut your burlap to wrap around the top. Use a small amount of hot glue to secure this.
I added some spring roses, carnation and daisies to my Rustic Painted Mason Jars which I picked up at my local arts and crafts store. Once real flowers bloom outside, I will replace them lilacs, and white daisies.
I love the way these painted flower jars look near my bottles of premium Softsoap Foaming Hand Wash. Paired together, they really brighten the look and feel of my main level bathroom. Plus, they smell really good, and are a real treat for my dry hands! The bottle of Kitchen Citrus Bliss on my sink also looks great, and makes even the most garlicky hands smell great! I totally suggest everyone tries these new premium soaps out soon!
Those are so cute and look so easy to make! I can’t wait to try to create some of my own – my bathroom could really use the decor!

These make adorable guest bathroom decorations and the Softsoap contianers compliment them very well too! We don’t have a lot of decor or space in our spare bathroom but the master could use a facelift!

The mason jar flowers turned out great! I was at my local dollar store the other day looking for craft supplies because I’ve been feeling crafty lately. This may be one I need to do soon, especially because I love the look of flowers around the house.
