About how many packets of cocoa mix do u need to equal 2 cups?
Amy says
10 packets :)
esther says
Love this! Am i understanding correctly that you put 10 packets of cocoa in each one?
Amy says
Yes! 10 packets fills one tube!
holly says
hey, i love the idea so much I’m making them for all of my employees but i wanted to add a tag with preparation instructions. how much water to use and such, do you have suggestions?
Amy says
Hi Holly, is you use 10 packets of hot cocoa, or even 12-they would need 12 cups of hot water. It is one cup of water per packet.
Amy says
if*, sorry!
Cindi says
So if you are doing individual cups……..how do you know how much mix to put in? An instructional gift tag would be appropriate.
Kelsi says
Hi! I am making some but I was wondering what size piping bags you used? Thanks!!! :)
Amy says
Hi Kelsi, 12″ pastry bags~have fun!
Lisa B says
Super cute.. I was wondering if it would be more frugal to use the big cans of powered cocoa measured out 2cups in each bag? Also how do u feel about a low temp hot glue gun
Amy says
I think the hot glue would melt the bag myself :( I would use whatever is the most frugal way!! The big cans are the way to go! How about those sticky little circles? They sell them at the craft stores-that is a good idea too! Thanks! Amy :)
Marie-Ève says
These are so great! Just spent an hour and a half to make 29 for my students! They will love it! Next up, making some for my 5 year old’s kindergarten class. Thanks a bunch for this idea :-)
Marlene Russell says
I gave a similar set of instructions a year or two back only I made my bags as the cake decorating tubes are quite expensive which would up the price of the finished product. I also included a layer of chocolate chips (tiny ones are best, they melt faster) and the colored mini marshmallows. Now how to make your own bags. If you have a food sealing machine just trace the cone part onto the sealer’s plastic bags from corner to corner and you get a cone bag. They are not quite as strong but they do work. If you can find refill plastic bags without advertising they will look nicer but that is why I put a very large bow on the top with tails hanging down to cover the ad.I made so many of these over a period of 3-4 years that I actually got sick of making them. They sold like hotcakes so hope you have the same luck. Marlene
Marlene Russell says
P.S the food sealer machine is made for storing food so it should be safe. The machine has a wire across it and a air withdrawer thingy . The wire heats up and causes the plastic to seal itself, there is no glue involved. I do think if you used hot glue it would not work so well as the hot glue would melt the plastic bag and probably is not too good to ingest. good luck. Marlene
Karen Ruckel says
If you are going to sell these at a craft fair (I’m doing one at an Elementary School), how much would you price these?
Amy says
I would price them at $4 myself if they were the large size.
Karen Ruckel says
Thanks! They would be using the 12 inch treat bags.
Robbi says
I think I will make for my granddaughters class. So cute.
Chris says
I know that you said to use 1 cup of water. But once it’s all in the cone. How much of the powder do you use. (How many teaspoons/ tablespoons?) I just want to write it on the tag with the gift.
Amy says
Hi, two tablespoons per 8 ounces of water. :)
Tara O. says
These are so adorable! My mom and daughter made them and now my daughter can’t wait to pass them out at school!
jeanne says
Where do you get the plain piping bags to use for the reindeer? All I have found in the stores are the ones from Wilton and they are not clear….
Amy says
You can get them online at Amazon.com or Michaels Arts and Crafts. They are called craft cone shaped bags.
jeanne says
Thanks Amy, my daughter is making these for her friends.
Paula says

Thanks! Paula
Debora Damm says
Hi there- could you tell me what size eyes you used for this? I need to order them in bulk for a school craft night and I want to get the right size. Thanks!!
Amy says
Hi 18-20 mm works! Actually pretty much any size between 15-22
Debora Damm says
Great, thanks.
lisa says
Oh my gosh this is adorable and great for gift giving too! Perfect craft for my daughter’s girl scout troop!
Dee says
What size pom pom did you use for the nose?
Amy says
Any size would work, but I use the medium sized ones.
Joanne says
How long in advance can these be made
Jared Desrosiers says
Hi Joanne,
Since the ingredients are dry, you should have no problem making these 1-2 months ahead of time as long as you tie them up nice and tight. The mini marshmallows may harden, but they’ll melt in the hot cocoa once it’s finally made.
Karon says
Hello.. What does the little card say that is attached?
Amy Desrosiers says
The instructions for making the hot cocoa.
