As you all know I am a home cook who loves cooking. But it can be hard to find good quality meat that’s free of added hormones and antibiotics. That’s why I was excited to hear about Good Chop Meat & Seafood Box! They send you high-quality meats in the mail so you never have to worry again about finding the best cuts of beef or pork for your next dish. This post contains affiliate links. Good Chop Meat Box is one of my favorite things because they make dinner easier than ever before! And with their monthly subscriptions, you’ll always know when your next shipment is coming so that there’s no need to worry about running out of supplies in the middle of a recipe. The best part? You can customize what meat or seafood comes in your box each month based on what you feel like cooking!
Let’s face it, these days local supermarkets do not have a wide selection of good clean cuts, or they’re just too expensive! Maybe you’ve even checked out a few meat subscription services, but they’re also expensive and they didn’t let you choose your own cuts of meat. Perhaps you’ve tried a subscription but canceled after a few months because you felt you weren’t receiving much value for your money?
If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place– Good Chop!
Good Chop is a Meat and Seafood subscription service whose food is sourced exclusively from American suppliers. Their cuts are high-quality and are never given antibiotics or added hormones, ever!
After receiving our first box from Good Chop, we have a lot to say about the experience and quality of the meat. But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s briefly review how Good Chop works.
P.S. Don’t leave without checking out our exclusive $100 discount at the end of this article!
How Good Chop Works
Good Chop is one of the simplest meat and seafood subscription services I’ve seen. Here’s how it works:
Assuming you don’t already have an account, you’ll need to sign up for one with your email address and choose a password. After that, you can choose from a medium or a large box.
A Medium Box contains six (6) items from the online menu. A Large Box contains twelve (12) items.

The Subscription
As part of a subscription to Good Chop, you’ll automatically receive a new box every 4-weeks.
If you need to make changes to your subscription or account such as box size, cuts of meat, delivery date, or other information, you can do so right from account settings on the Good Chop website.
As a rule of thumb, any changes need to be made before the Sunday before your next delivery by 11:59 pm Pacific Time (PT). If you wait longer than that, Good Chop will have already processed your next box for shipment.
How Does Good Chop Ship?
After you choose your items, they’ll be shipped to you inside a well-insulated box packed with dry ice to keep the contents frozen. Shipping is fast and free.
When we received our box, all of our meat and fish were frozen solid and there was a lot of dry ice still inside the box. If we hadn’t been home when it was delivered, I would estimate that it could have stayed outside in the 90-degree summer heat for another 6 – 8 hours! We simply transferred it to our freezer and recycled the box and packing materials.
The dry ice can be left outside to off-gas and slowly disappear. Just be careful when handling it. You shouldn’t touch it with your bare skin because it will cause burns! It’s inside plastic bags for easy handling. However, if you need to grab the dry ice itself, be sure to wear insulated gloves.
Where Does Good Chop Meat Come From?
One of the selling points of Good Chop in my opinion is the source of meats and seafood. All of their product is sourced from American family farms and fisheries. This helps keep our domestic agricultural economy strong and gives me peace of mind knowing that my food is responsibly raised.
This means that the beef, pork, and chicken are born and bred in the U.S. Plus, all of the seafood is wild-caught on U.S. coasts or raised on U.S. farms.
Canceling a Good Chop Subscription
We like the fact that your subscription can be paused or canceled at any time right from your account settings on their website. You can simply log in to your account and go to “Settings”. From there click “Deactivate Your Plan” and click “Cancel Anyway”.
As mentioned above, any cancellations need to be made before the Sunday before your next delivery by 11:59 pm Pacific Time (PT). Otherwise, you’ll be on the hook for another box before the cancelation goes into effect. However, by that time you would have paid for another box anyway…
Is Good Chop Worth It?
So far, everything we described about Good Chop sounds great, right? But what about the cost breakdown? Are they more expensive than the market price of meat and seafood, within the average, or a great bargain? Let’s break it down…
The regular cost of a Medium Box (without promotions) is currently $149. You get to choose 6 items from the menu, which vary depending on the type of cut you choose. The regular cost of a Large Box is $269, and you get to choose 12 items from the menu. The better the cut, the less you get. For calculation purposes, we’ll pretend we only want a box full of Boneless Ribeye Steaks.
My local market is selling boneless ribeye for $18.99 per pound. On Good Chop’s menu, two (2) 10 oz. cuts equal one (1) item – 20 oz (1.25 lbs). If we multiply that by six (6), it gives us 120 oz or 7.5 lbs of meat. A Large Box would equal 14 lbs of ribeye.
At a cost of $18.99 per lb. multiplied by 7.5 lbs, your cost would equal $142.43. The medium box price of $149 is $6.57 more expensive. The Large Box equivalent equals $265.86, which is $3.14 cheaper than the Large Box.
I know what you’re thinking… “It’s cheaper to buy from the market!” Hear me out for a minute! Remember that this box is shipped to your doorstep at no added cost. All you need to do is take your meat out of the box and place it in your freezer. Each package is vacuum-packed, so no freezer burn! Convenience is king here!
Is the steak at your market exclusively Angus cattle? Were the cattle ever given hormones or antibiotics? Were they born and raised in the USA? Just because a package reads “Product of U.S.A” doesn’t mean the cattle were born and raised here!
Good Chop beef comes from American family farms and independent ranchers that care about animal welfare. Plus, breeds like Angus just taste better!
Also, keep in mind. My quick calculation didn’t include any other delicious selections from the menu like pork, chicken, or seafood! Throw in some wild-caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and that value jumps up!
