Do you grind your teeth while sleeping, or clench your teeth when stressed or angry? If so, you’re not alone. Many people experience this involuntary reaction, which is known as bruxism. In fact, I’ve struggled with teeth grinding and clenching for most of my early adult life, especially during stressful situations.
Unfortunately, grinding and clenching teeth is not only annoying (mostly for bed partners during the night), it can also harm your teeth and can cause irreversible damage to them over time. As a result, I took action over 6 years ago to reduce the risk of damage to my teeth caused by grinding and clenching and started using a mouthguard.
After purchasing a few different dental guards from local retailers and being completely unsatisfied. I finally purchased a professional custom dental night guard from Pro Teeth Guard and never looked back!
About Pro Teeth Guard
Pro Teeth Guard is operated by a dental lab that has serviced dentists with custom mouth guards, dentures, crowns, and other devices for over 10 years.
In an effort to provide affordable dentist-quality mouth night guards to people without the need to order through a dentist, they created ProTeethGuard.com. As a result, anyone who wants to protect their teeth from the harmful effects of grinding or clenching can get a high-quality mouth guard for much less money than if they went through their dentist.
Which Mouth Guard is Right for You?
One of the reasons I like Pro Teeth Guard is that they offer different mouth guards depending on your specific situation. Also, depending on the type of guard you need, the price is different. Here’s a table of their current offerings.
Name | Intended Use | Price |
Hard Night Guard | Heavy Grinding | $199.99 |
Hybrid Night Guard | Moderate Grinding | $179.99 |
Ultra Thin Guard | Day Time Grinding | $169.99 |
Soft Night Guard | Light Grinding or Clenching | $159.99 |
The mouth guard I use is the Hybrid Night Guard for moderate grinding. This is also their most popular product. It’s hard on the outside and soft on the inside. This makes it comfortable to wear while also maintaining durability.
If these prices seem high to you, you’d probably be surprised to know that they’re on average over 50% cheaper than getting a custom night guard from your dentist. A dentist will likely charge around $400 or more for an equivalent product. Remember that Pro Teeth Guard is operated by a dental lab that makes custom night guards for dentist offices! Therefore, you’re essentially getting the same product.
How Does Pro Teeth Guard Work?
When you order your Pro Teeth Guard on their website, you’ll receive an impression kit with instructions. Here’s how it works.
The impression kit contains upper and lower trays of 2 different sizes, 3 sets of putty (one set per upper and lower tray, plus one extra), instructions, and a prepaid return envelope.
Before starting, it’s recommended to place the putty in your refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. This firms it up and makes it less sticky while working with it. While the putty is chilling in the fridge, take the time to brush your teeth because you don’t want food particles sticking into your impressions!
Make sure to test both sizes of trays in your mouth before doing anything with the putty. You’ll want your teeth to fit into the middle of the tray and not touch the sides. Choose whichever size fits best.
You’ll then follow the instructions to mix the putty together. It’s a 2-part putty that once mixed, begins to harden. Therefore, you need to move pretty quickly. In fact, you only have about 50 seconds to mix the putty, place it in the tray, and press it into your teeth. After which time, you’ll keep your teeth inside the putty for 4 minutes before removing them.
After doing this for the upper and lower trays, you simply place the impressions, which are now hard, into the prepaid envelope and drop the package in a mailbox.
Luckily, Pro Teeth Guard includes an extra set of putty with the kit just in case you screw up!
How Long To Receive Your Custom Night Guard?
On average, it takes about 2-weeks to receive your new dental night guard from Pro Teeth Guard after you send them your impressions. This is based on my experience over the past few years.
How Long Does a Custom Night Guard Last?
You can expect to get about 6 months out of a custom night guard from Pro Teeth Guard. That’s about how frequently I replace mine. You’ll notice that it begins to yellow and loses some of its flexibility at this age.
Final Thoughts
As I mentioned earlier in this review, I have been a customer of Pro Teeth Guard for over 6 years. Why is that you ask? They have been consistently providing me with perfect fitting, comfortable, and durable nightguards that whole time.
They fit better than a glove and the best part is that they’re NOT bulky at all! I use mine every night and sometimes during the day if I feel myself wanting to clench my teeth.
The retail for the Hybrid Night Guard that I use is $179 which is significantly lower than the cost my dentist wanted to pin on me for the same quality product! My Pro Teeth Guard is a real dream. Of course, these results and experiences may vary for you. However, I am happy with the product!
I am actually supposed to sleep with a night guard on because I have TMJ, but I threw my old one away because it was so nasty.
i know so many people that need night guards. We thought my 7 year old was but I think she grew out of needing one. thankfully!
I had a guard made as i sometime grind my teeth when i sleep,Its great that you can make the mold at home rather than at the dentists.
Very cool! When you mix your own molds, it saves a LOT of money. I hope you get them back soon!
What I wouldn’t have given for invisalign when I was little. Awesome that you can make your own molds!
I had no idea you could do this! I clench my teeth and have clenched my way through like 4 of these things. Any savings would be awesome!
My husband has paid for a night guard (through our dentist), but doesn’t wear it because it makes him gag. I’m trying to get him to get used to it, but he’s stubborn. I remember the mold process well (I’ve had braces 3 times!)
That’s pretty awesome actually. It’s wonderful that you’ve found the dental guard. I’m glad it’s working for you. :)
How helpful! One of my boys grinds his teeth in his sleep.
Luckily, I don’t grind my teeth in my sleep. But I have noticed when I am stressed I clench my jaw. When I notice that I am doing that, I work on relaxing.
I will have to tell my sister about this! She grinds her teeth when she sleeps.
Thanks for sharing this! I know that my husband grinds his teeth.
I had no idea you could do this! I’ll be looking forward to your update once you get them back!
I just noticed my baby grinding her teeth this week! I hope she doesn’t damage them!
I clench my teeth when I sleep so I’ve thought about buying the store guards. I’m glad you said they’re lousy. I also have a small jaw so I’ll bet they’d be horrible oversized for me. This is a great alternative.
Wow, I love that it’s 100% guaranteed and free shipping. I think my son could use this.
my guard is very much ready to be replaced. i should check this out for me. i’m a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time grinder :(
A reduced price over the dentist is great, especially for people that don’t have insurance!
I probably should do this – I grind to the point of massive headaches in the am… It’s a great price!
This seems like a great deal. I need to pass this on to my son because he is a teeth grinder and he hasn’t really followed through with doing something about it.
I used to have this issue of grinding my teeth. I wish I had these then!
The price of dental work is crazy these days. I am glad there are companies who are making it easier for us to afford it.
I don’t grind my teeth, but I snore. I need to find a solution for it!
I had them when I was uounger, these look so much less like a torture tool than mine! Lol.
I didn’t know they had night guards. My uncle grinds his teeth so this would be helpful for him.
OMGosh you have no idea how happy I am to read this. My hubby needs one of these BAD! He’s been having such bad headaches from grinding his teeth.
That’s really cool to see how they are formed. Luckily I don’t deal with teeth grinding , but it is great to know there is a way to handle it.
I love that you can make your mold from home! I’d love to know how comfy the guard is when it comes
Oh I love that you can make these at home! I know my daughter needs one, she grits her teeth in her sleep, and this would be perfect for her.
Hi,
Great information! I paid my dentist $800 years ago when he first told me I grind my teeth at night. I came across a similar online dental lab last year called Sentinel Mouthguard Co and had them make me a night guard for I think around $150. I checked out Proteeth too. They were just a bit more expensive.
I wear my night guard every night and have not had any probelms with it. You just have to be careful when taking your own dental impression. I messed mine up the the first time and they sent me another impression kit. So my advice for anyone looking to get a night guard made through an online dental lab: Read the instructions carefully and take it seriously. The fit of your night guard depends on your ability to take an accurate impression of your teeth.

Very true!! One slip or movement and that’s it!
I had no idea about this product. My sister needs this
My husband has to wear a night guard because he grinds his teeth at night. It’s time for him to get a new one. I’ll have to share this post with him.
Interesting. I like that you can make these yourself instead of having to go someplace to have them made.
I also clench my teeth when I’m stressed (which has been a lot lately, unfortunately!) This sounds like a great product to help stop the grinding.
I’m suppose to sleep with one of these but I just couldn’t :/ I’m awful I know, these look much better than mine ever was!
Grinding teeth is awful. I was on a medication once that made me do that. I quickly got of that medication.
Great information. Thanks so much. I don’t grind, but my kids do, so this is a great solution
I’m glad that you found a solution that worked for you. Grinding your teeth is the worst.
I think my mom needs this. She grinds her teeth so bad in her sleep, it’s a wonder she still has any left in her mouth!
I hope that you really enjoy your molds when you get them back and that they help. I knew someone who would grind their teeth at night. It’s not good for them, that’s for sure.
I may need to look into this. I tend to clench my teeth at night and I bet this would help
What a great service! And the product looks excellent!
I’m a tooth grinder too but I can’t stand the night guards. I got one from my dentist years ago but couldn’t tolerate the plastic taste in my mouth. This looks much easier and simpler than what i had to do with my dentist.
I’m a teeth grinder and I agree that the store bought mouth guards don’t work. This looks like a great product, you should do the actual molds in a new post!
I DEFINITELY have to check them out. Both I, and my youngest, grind our teeth and it is wearing out our enamel. I brought over the counter guards but they are so uncomfortable. Given that these are molded to your teeth, I’m sure the comfort level is better. Pls let us know how they feel when you get them. Thank you!
I sure will let you know!!
my hubby had to have those and they are super expensive. Hope it helps!
Oh my ! This sounds like a great product. To hear happy you are with your guards is great. It is also great that you saved so much money and didn’t have to wait on your dental office anymore for the estimate they were suppose to give you.
My teeth grinding is so bad that I actually cracked a tooth! That is most definitely why I need one. The type I would want is for my upper teeth!
Oh man I need this. My insurance wont cover the one from the dentist (well they will only cover 20%) but my grinding is so bad I have lost 2 teeth already :( seriousely..I am missing my 2 back teeth because my clenching and grinding caused them to crack in half! Then the cost to fix them was way more than just have them pulled..
I want to win this for myself. I have been told by my dentist that I am a grinder.
I have grinded down my previous night gaurds
I clench my teeth a lot so I would need this.
i suffer from teeth clenching so the light night guard is best for me. i dont have health insurance so i could really use one.
I grind my teeth when I sleep so I would use it then, I would love the hybrid pro.
I have been told by my dentist that I grind while asleep. I have also heard these can help with snoring????
It would be helpful for my husband!
I grind my teeth, so this would be for myself.
I grind my teeth so I could use this.
I have problems with my jaw, since an auto accident. I clench my teeth and my teeth are in bad need of alignment. It interrupts my sleep. Hoping this could help.
I really need this, I bought a store bought one and have already ground my teeth so much that it is starting to come apart, my dentist hates it because If I dont wear one I grind the filling off of my crowns and even broke a tooth
My husband really needs a night guard, as he grinds his teeth.
I have a lot of problems with clenching my jaw at night. I have to have my second surgery because the bone grows on the sides of my jaw and they have to shave it down. NO fun
I think my daughter could use this. She grinds her teeth.
My husband could certainly use this as he grinds his teeth
I grind my teeth while sleeping, then in the morning my mouth hurts. :/
I would need the Hard Night Guard forHeavy Grinding
WOW THIS IS AMAZING..I HAVE TMJ AND I GRIND MY TEETH ALOT..I CANT AFFORD ONE SO THIS WOULD BE FANTASTIC THANK YOU ALOT
