The month of May is made extra special with Thank-O-Rama from Mo Willems! This post is sponsored by Disney Book Group. All views expressed are that of our own.
When is the last time you pondered what you were thankful for? For one, I am thankful for all you lovely readers stopping by our family’s blog to check out our new posts and photographs. So thank you, for helping to support our family.
In honor of Thank-O-Rama month, we received some amazing Elephant & Piggie themed goodies to help our kids express what they are thankful for in life. We also received a copy of the all new Harold and Hog Pretend for Real! book.
Harold and Hog Pretend for Real
If your kids love the Elephant & Piggie series, they are going to love Harold and Hog Pretend for Real! by Dan Santat from the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! series. This book is like a book in a book- it starts out with Piggie & Gerald discovering Harold & Hog are pretending to be them in a book of their own.
It is funny because Harold has the personality of Piggie and Hog has the personality of Gerald. They try to be their respective animal characters, but at the end realize they are better suited to pretend to be the opposites. The book is really cute and a surprise appearance from an imposter Pigeon at the end.
My kids loved it and so did I because the message is you can use your imagination and pretend to be whatever you’d like, and you should never pretend to be what others expect you to be. At the end of this book, Harold & Hog are still best friends and happy that they got to pretend for real!
This book really made me reflect on how sometimes people in life expect us to be something we are not. I think all kids should read it and realize that with a few costumes or props and a vivid imagination, they can pretend for real.
ABOUT THANK-O-RAMA
My kids loved the chalk paper and Piggie & Gerald chalk we received so much. In fact, they decided they’d rather use their own chalk than ruin the adorable Piggie & Gerald ones to write down things they’re thankful for
We took a few moments to reflect and Khloe decided she was thankful for her parents, siblings, teacher, food, home, and dog. Blake was thankful for the same, and God, of course!
This exercise was really fun, plus the paper is sticky and has a chalkboard surface so they stuck it on a notebook to reuse. Now they can jot down what they’re feeling thankful for as more things come to mind along the way!
What are you thankful for? Will you be picking up the Harold and Hog Pretend for Real! book?
