If you love cheese sauce, you will love this easy beer cheese recipe. It’s a creamy homemade cheese sauce (or dip) that features a blend of cheese, spice, and beer!
Beer cheese can be enjoyed as a dip for fresh bread, chips, or veggies. In addition, it can be used as a sauce for hot dogs or grilled brats.
Recommended Beer
Beer cheese gets its name from one of its main ingredients – beer. The addition of beer helps the cheese achieve a smooth saucy consistency. Plus, it adds a pleasing depth of malty flavor.
We recommend using a cheaper mainstream light lager beer in this recipe. Don’t bother using a high-end craft beer. Save your expensive craft beer for drinking!
Ingredients:
Homemade Beer Cheese is made from the following ingredients:
- Sharp Yellow Cheddar Cheese
- Emmental Cheese – This is a yellow medium-hard cheese that originated in Switzerland. It’s also known as Emmentaler Cheese.
- Light Lager Beer – A brand of your choice
- Fresh Garlic
- Mustard Powder
- Flour
- Hot Sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
How to Make:
- Grate both the cheddar and swiss cheese into a large mixing bowl. Place it aside.
- Add the beer, garlic, dry mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to a double boiler. Heat it on medium-high heat on the stovetop until warm.
- In the mixing bowl that contains the grated cheese, add the flour and toss it with the cheese until it’s evenly distributed.
- Add 1/3 of the cheese mixture to the double boiler and whisk until fully combined.
- Repeat step 4 by adding the remaining cheese (small amounts at a time) until it’s fully combined and melted into a sauce.
- Serve in a fondue pot, or in a serving dish and eat immediately.
