Tasty bites like this Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread featuring Johnsonville Sweet Italian Sausage makes for a winning game day combo!
Each layer of freshly baked sourdough (available at most supermarket bakeries, fresh daily), is carefully sliced and stuffed with pan-fried Sweet Italian Sausage, and a blend of 3 melty cheeses (mozzarella, jack, and cheddar).
Food lovers rejoice because this recipe is all you need this tailgating season! You can prep the loaf at home, and grill it over foil to heat & melt the cheese. If you want, you can also grill Johnsonville Brats and slice them for this meaty appetizer recipe. Or, you can precook the sausage at home and bring it on the go in a food storage container.
But, now we are circling back to this perfect tailgating recipe! I want you all to be inspired to enjoy the football season with some tasty, cheesy sausage bread.
Cheesy Sausage Pull Apart Bread Recipe Ingredients
- 1 lb loaf of sour dough artisan loaf you can also use a regular style loaf of artisan style bread.
- 1/4 cup each of mozzarella cheese, jack cheese, and cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon of scallions
- 1 tablespoon of parsley
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp of minced garlic
- 1 cup of cooked Johnsonville Sweet Italian Sausage
How to Cut a Pull Apart Bread Loaf
Start out by getting a serrated bread knife. A regular knife will not work well at all —trust me, I tried!
Start by slicing 1″ in from the end of your bread from top to bottom. Do not cut all the way through! Repeat in the same direction slicing one inch slices across.
Rotate the bread and firmly and carefully hold the sliced part. You want to now slice in the other direction -1 inch slices.
This will now form cubes. It is very tricky to hold the bread still so be cautious, careful and if you accidentally cut out a square of bread just place it back. The cheese will be a perfect binder.
Once you have pull apart bread rectangles, it is time to stuff the bread with cooked sausage crumbles and cheese.
How to Make Pull Apart Bread
Line a baking sheet with heavy duty foil and make a well around the edges to keep the butter and toppings in. You will also need more foil to cover the top.
Add the bread to the foil.
I added the sausage first and then the cheese. I tried my best to tuck the cheese and sausage into the bread.
Top with parsley and scallions and pour over the melted butter.
Cover the top of the bread with foil.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes covered, and an additional 10 minutes uncovered to crisp up the top.
Serve warm while cheese is ooey and gooey!
