Halloween Monster Mix is a sweet and delicious no-bake snack mix that features Chex cereal, melted candy, and an assortment of tasty add-ins like candies, chocolate morsels, marshmallows, and sprinkles. It makes a yummy, edible Halloween gift for the spooky season.
Perfect for Halloween parties, this Monster Munch Snack Mix is loaded with spooky candies and sweet additions. Make this snack ahead of time to fill party goodie bags, or for a socially distanced Halloween treat (Halloween falls on a Saturday this year).
Halloween is approaching quickly and while there is some uncertainty with the holiday, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some festive treats. This Halloween mix is an easy no-bake snack that the kids will love!
Unlike our popular Reindeer Chow snack mix, Halloween Monster mix has a melted candy wafer base. We used hot cocoa to sweeten the rice cereal and chose to not use peanut butter to make it allergy-friendly. If you want your snack mix to be nut-free be sure to only add ingredients that are made in a nut-free facility.
I love this candy snack mix because it is easy to make, and the kids can also help make it. It is loaded with sugar, but can be enjoyed as a once in a while treat…because Halloween is the spooky season for all things candy!
There are many cute bite-sized Halloween candies to use in this mix. We used Sixlets and M&Ms which were brightly colored and festive.
The neon purple, and slime green really make this mix POP when paired with the classic Halloween orange coloring.
What is Monster Mix?
Halloween Monster Mix is the spooky version of Muddy Buddies. It features Chex cereal pieces coated in melted chocolate or melted candy wafers. The cereal pieces are coated in the candy and then tossed with either hot cocoa powder or powdered sugar.
Monster Mix ingredients
M&MS. We used the Halloween variety that are now in stores.
Mini Marshmallows. This adds a nice texture to the mix to balance it out.
Sixlets. We love the pretty orange colors these candy coated chocolate balls are available in. You can find them online or in-store.
Pearls. We used black candy pearls for a fun effect.
Cereal. You can use Chex or a store brand in rice or corn variety.
Chocolate Morsels. These provide a sweet chocolaty flavor. If you can find them in white or orange those would work too!
Sprinkles. We use a blend of Halloween sprinkles, and eyeball candies which you can find online or in-stores.
Wafers. You will need orange and black candy melt wafers. We used the black to adhere the cocoa to our cereal. The orange melts were used to add color, taste, and texture to the mix.
You can also add mini pretzels, popcorn, or mini chocolates to your mix. Get the full recipe below & check out our video.
How to make Monster Mix
Halloween Monster snack mix is super easy and takes less than 10 minutes to make. It is a no-bake snack idea that requires just a microwave unless you prefer to use a double boiler to melt the black candy wafers.
Simply add the cereal to a large zippered bag, pour in the melted candy, sprinkle in the hot cocoa, and thoroughly mix. Spread onto a baking sheet and mix in the additional candies and snacks.
How to serve Monster Mix
I love to serve this in little cup-size portions for my kids snacks. However, you can also bag it up as treats or favors. It contains no peanuts so it is a safer lunchbox snack for kids as long as you use peanut-free items.
How to store
This snack mix should NOT be stored in the fridge or freezer. The candy and chocolate will sweat and cause moisture which will make the cocoa wet and ruin the mix.
This lasts up to 2 weeks in a cool, dry, air-tight environment. I find the glass Pyrex storage bowls with lids to work best. However, plastic one gallon sized zipper bags also work.
