These Buffalo-Style Sausage Wontons combine all the yummy flavors of sausage with the popular flavors of buffalo style sauce.
I love this time of year because I have been literally cooking up a storm in my kitchen. These week has been all about the appetizers. What common foods could I add a twist to, to make delicious bite-sized morsels from? When it comes to Johnsonville Sausage we are no strangers to their tasty varieties. I especially love the Mild Ground Sausage which is perfect for cooking. With all the spices already added into the sausage, it is truly a time-saver.
I have made some bratwurst appetizers in the past but really wanted to try to use the Johnsonville Sausage in a fun way. I love adding tasty foods to wonton cups so this was a no-brainer. If you have not cooked with wonton wrappers, you are missing out! They are not only tasty but trendy too!
The crispy crunch of the wonton cup pairs so nicely with the softer sausage and cheese combo inside. I also found that cooking the sausage in a small frying pan before adding the blue cheese, and hot sauce worked more to my advantage. Pre-baking the cups until golden brown, and then filling them with the sausage and cheese mixture was a time-saver. I basically filled them up with the mixture, and then topped them with a little cheese. I placed them back into the oven and the residual heat melted the cheese.
Paired with an ice cold beer, or some water and you have yourself a great BIG Game appetizer contender!

- cooking spray
- 2 (12) count muffin tins
Pan-fry ground sausage until fully cooked; drain excess liquid
Spray two muffin or cupcake tins with non-stick spray and then line them with wonton wrappers
Bake for 3-5 mins at 350
Add blue cheese dressing and hot sauce to the frying pan and mix thoroughly
Spoon mixture evenly into each baked wonton wrapper
Sprinkle with cheese
Place in warm oven so cheese melts, or put in 300 degree oven for 2 minutes
Your guests will LOVE these! Making them the same day is recommended to prevent sogginess. You can pre-make the mixture ahead of time, but baking the wontons would be ideal right before serving.
